Lesson 6.2 – Bullying, Harassment & Sexual Harassment
Creating a respectful workplace
At DIMA Group, every employee has the right to work in an environment where they feel safe, respected and valued. We are committed to maintaining a workplace that is free from bullying, harassment and sexual harassment, and we expect every member of staff to contribute to a positive and professional working environment.
Our staff regularly work alongside colleagues, clients, contractors and members of the public. Professional behaviour is expected at all times, whether you are working at a venue, attending training, travelling on company business or representing DIMA Group at an event.
Bullying, harassment and sexual harassment will not be tolerated under any circumstances and may result in disciplinary action.
Understanding bullying, harassment and sexual harassment
Bullying is behaviour that intimidates, humiliates or undermines another person. It may involve repeated criticism, aggressive behaviour, exclusion from a team or deliberately making someone’s working life difficult.
Harassment is unwanted behaviour that violates a person’s dignity or creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading or offensive environment. Harassment may relate to a person’s age, disability, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy or any other protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010.
Sexual harassment is any unwanted conduct of a sexual nature. This includes inappropriate comments, unwanted touching, sexual jokes, suggestive messages, repeated requests for dates or any behaviour that makes another person feel uncomfortable, intimidated or embarrassed.
It is important to remember that behaviour does not have to be intended to offend someone for it to be considered harassment. What matters is the effect that the behaviour has on the individual receiving it.
Working in the security industry
As a security professional, you will regularly deal with members of the public, customers, performers, contractors and other staff. Some situations may involve individuals behaving inappropriately towards you or towards your colleagues.
Professional standards must always be maintained. Inappropriate behaviour should never be accepted as “part of the job”, regardless of who it comes from.
If a customer, client or member of the public behaves in a way that makes you or another colleague feel uncomfortable, you should report the matter to your supervisor or manager as soon as it is safe to do so. DIMA Group is committed to taking reasonable steps to protect employees from harassment by third parties.
Your responsibility
Every employee has a responsibility to contribute to a workplace built on respect and professionalism. This means treating everyone fairly, using appropriate language, respecting personal boundaries and considering how your words and actions may affect others.
If you witness bullying, harassment or sexual harassment, you should not ignore it. Reporting concerns helps protect colleagues and allows the Company to investigate and take appropriate action. Any concerns raised in good faith will be treated seriously, fairly and confidentially.
Reporting concerns
If you experience or witness bullying, harassment or sexual harassment, you should report it through the appropriate management channels as soon as possible.
DIMA Group will investigate all reports fairly, confidentially and without victimising anyone who raises a genuine concern. Where necessary, action will be taken under the Company’s disciplinary procedures, and in serious cases the matter may also be reported to the police.
Professional standards
Everyone deserves to work in an environment where they are treated with dignity and respect. By behaving professionally, challenging inappropriate behaviour where it is safe to do so and reporting concerns promptly, you help create a workplace where everyone feels safe and supported.
Respect is one of the foundations of excellent customer service and professional security. The way you conduct yourself reflects not only on you but also on DIMA Group and the clients we represent.
