Lesson 7.2: Risk Assessments and Safe Working

Understanding risk assessments

A risk assessment identifies hazards, assesses the level of risk and sets out control measures to reduce the risk of harm.

Risk assessments are in place to protect you, your colleagues, clients and members of the public. You must work in accordance with all relevant risk assessments at all times.

Your responsibility regarding risk assessments

You are required to:
• Read and understand site specific risk assessments
• Follow all control measures identified
• Work within the limits of your training and role
• Apply safe working practices at all times

You must not ignore, alter, or bypass control measures.

Where to find risk assessments

Risk assessments are available on the C247 app.

To access them:
• Open the C247 app
• Select the three lines in the top right corner
• Select Documentation
• Select Site Documents
• Select the relevant risk assessment

Some venues may also hold a physical copy within a site folder.

Dynamic risk assessment

Risks can change during a shift. You must remain alert and continually assess your surroundings.

If conditions change, such as increased crowd numbers, aggressive behaviour or blocked exits, you must:
• Take appropriate action to reduce risk
• Adjust your approach where necessary
• Report the change to management
• Record incidents or concerns as required

Missing or unclear risk assessments

If a risk assessment is missing, unclear, or does not reflect the conditions on site, you must:
• Report this immediately to management
• Not carry out unsafe tasks
• Follow management instructions

You must not continue working in a way that places you or others at risk.
